Omron Manufacturing of Dalian (OMD) Co. Ltd

Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt's Theory of Constraints (TOC) management theory has been adopted holistically throughout all divisions of Omron Healthcare Co.--from manufacturing to sales-- to successfully increase growth and profits, and dramatically decreasing inventory levels by 40 percent across the supply chain...

... I was transferred in July 2010 to OMD to implement a transformation in inventory management. It was my second stint at Dalian; my first took place in 20032008. We utilized Dynamic Buffer Management (DBM), which was referenced in Dr. Goldratt's book Isn't It Obvious. In the book, the manager of a textile chain needed to balance sales and inventory to maximize profit and ended up reducing stock significantly.

The role of the TOC Insights in Organizations AND Universities:

The TOC Insights are "Stand Alone Education" | top

From the desk of Dr. James R. Holt, Ph.D., PE
Professor of Engineering & Technology Management
Washington State University

I include all four of the TOC Insights as recommended reading (study) for both Washington State University’s Applications in Constraints Management Course and our Contemporary Topics in Constraints Management. The Insights are fantastic additions to our course lectures. The Insights are "Stand Alone Education." That means for a student struggling to grasp the material, the insights fill the gap. And, some sections of the insights are just indispensible. It is so easy to explain the effects of aggregating variability With the Distribution Insights. And, the dynamic buffer management section of the Distribution Insights is priceless.

I like the other Insights as well. I like the way the Thinking Process tools are exposed a little in each Insight. Also the interactive segment in Finance & Measures (some students have to go through that several times to figure out the right measures). And, being able to see CCPM develop and take place in the Projects Insight make teaching much, much easier.

My students appreciate the academic pricing and the option to apply the academic price they paid towards a long term version that they can use to show and teach their peers.

For a fast yet broad understanding of TOC, I always recommend the TOC Insights.
